Let Me Love You” is a song by DJ Snake featuring Justin Bieber on the album Encore. A snippet of the hook was already leaked on June 13, 2016.

Background[]

The song started on the balcony of Brian Lee's management studio, Electric Feel. Andrew Watt and Lee both love “Blackbird” by the Beatles, they wanted to try to flip it for Rihanna or Kygo or whomever. Andrew had a riff on the guitar that he played to Lee. They brought the song to Ali Tamposi and she nailed the vibe and the feel that they both wanted. They had a layout but no hook, and Lee tried to imagine Rihanna singing this, and started singing the hook “don’t you give up na na na.” Ali told him to record it, everyone convinced him it was the hook. So now they had “Let Me Love You” part 1…Acoustic and organic.

Andrew had gotten the song to Nick Audino, and then Nick played it for DJ Snake, who loved it. He put a whole new beat around it and kept the hook. He sent them the track and wanted a different verse. They all got back in and wrote a new verse, once again shooting for Rihanna. Finding the featured artist was the battle. Many people cut the song. At one point the song was about to be just another forgotten song on someone’s MacBook.

Watt then texted the demo to Justin Bieber, who fell in love with the acoustic version but had not yet recorded it. "DJ Snake got the song and made an incredible beat," said Watt. "When we heard the vocal over that, we were like, 'Wow, this is not a demo anymore. This is our beautiful folk song turned into this insane thing.' So then Andrew played Justin [the new version] with DJ Snake’s beat behind it, and then they cut it within a week.[1][2][3][4][5]

Before the release, Selena Gomez shared a Snapchat where her version of the song was played. It was reposted by DJ Snake, which increased the rumors that Selena was also going to be a part of it. But the final version was only released with Justin Bieber. In 2022, Selena addressed the cancelled collaboration in her documentary Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me. Selena said: "It just sucks too, cause like the whole song thing. [John] called me this morning about the song with Justin and I'm like, 'when am I just gonna be good enough by myself? When am I gonna be good just by myself, not needing anyone to be associated with?'"[6]

Composition and lyrical interpretation[]

The song samples Lumidee's “Never Leave You”.

Music video[]

The official music video was released three months later, and Justin or DJ Snake are not part of it.The video has been referred to as "Bonnie and Clyde with a twist", as it follows a couple of thiefs in love engaging in various delinquent activities. In the end, it's revealed that the thieving couple are actually a videogame simulation, and the players on the other side are a young boy and an unkempt man with virtual reality devices on.

Remixes[]

DJ snake released eight official remixes of Let Me Love You made by DJ's, singers and producers. Including an acoustic version by Andrew Watt.

Lyrics[]

[Verse 1: Justin Bieber]
I used to believe, we were burnin' on the edge of somethin' beautiful
Somethin' beautiful
Sellin' a dream, smoke and mirrors keep us waitin' on a miracle (Oh whoa)
On a miracle (Oh whoa)

[Pre-Chorus: Justin Bieber]
Say, go through the darkest of days
Heaven's a heartbreak away
Never let you go, never let me down
Oh, it's been a hell of a ride
Driving the edge of a knife
Never let you go, never let me down

[Chorus: Justin Bieber]
Don't you give up, nah, nah, nah
I won't give up, nah, nah, nah
Let me love you, let me love you
Don't you give up, nah, nah, nah
I won't give up, nah, nah, nah
Let me love you, let me love you
Oh no no, no no

[Breakdown: DJ Snake & Justin Bieber]
Oh, oh, oh-ohhh

[Verse 2: Justin Bieber]
Don't fall asleep, at the wheel, we've got a million miles ahead of us
Miles ahead of us
All that we need (Ohh)
Is a rude awakening to know we're good enough (Yeah), know we're good enough

[Pre-Chorus: Justin Bieber]
Say go through the darkest of days
Heaven's a heartbreak away
Never let you go, never let me down
Oh it's been a hell of a ride
Driving the edge of a knife
Never let you go, never let me down

[Chorus: Justin Bieber]
Don't you give up, nah, nah, nah
I won't give up, nah, nah, nah
Let me love you, let me love you
Don't you give up, nah, nah, nah
I won't give up, nah, nah, nah
Let me love you, let me love you
Oh no no, no no

[Breakdown: DJ Snake & Justin Bieber]
Oh, oh, oh-ohhh

[Outro: Justin Bieber]
Never let you go, never let you go girl
Never let you go, never let you go girl
Never let you go (Whoa-oh), girl never let you go (Woo)
Never let you go, never let you go girl
Never let you go, never let you go girl
Never let you go (Yeah, yeah), girl never let you go
Don't you give up, nah, nah, nah
I won't give up, nah, nah, nah
