The MTV Video Music Awards (abbreviated as The VMA's) are an annual award show that honors the best music videos of the year, and pop culture. Justin Bieber made his first appearance in 2009 when he performed and presented.

2009[]


The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards were held on September 13 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Justin wasn't nominated. Justin wanted to give one lucky fan a shout-out during the VMAs pre-show. To enter the concest you had to upload a video of yourself explaining — or showing — why you were Justin’s biggest fan to Your.MTV.com.[1] Justin picked the winner himself and said hi to Tricia Matibag.[2][3]

2010[]

The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards took place on September 12, 2010 at Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. Justin was nominated for 1 award, Best New Artist and won. He performed U Smile, Baby and Somebody to Love and played the drums.

The 2013 VMA Awards were held on August 25, 2013 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Justin was nominated for Best Choreography for the music video, "#thatPOWER" by Will.i.am. Bruno Mars won with Treasure. Justin didn't go to the VMA's in 2013.

2015[]

The 2015 MTV VMA's were held on August 30, 2015. Justin performed "Where Are Ü Now" and "What Do You Mean". Justin interrupted the song for one hell of a monologue that he gave while floating off the ground. He said:

"Life is a journey. Sometimes we battle, full of the unexpected. Sometimes we focus on our destination and forget to focus on that journey. But when we fall, it allows you to get up stronger. It allows you not to focus on your own understanding. Give in to faith. Believe in something bigger than yourself, and find your purpose."

Justin ended the performance by breaking down into tears, leaving even Miley Cyrus momentarily speechless. He was crying because he didn't expect they would support him, last time at an award show he was booed. His music video, "Where Are Ü Now", was nominated for 4 awards:
